You must remember that the shooting of the legendary film of all times «D’Artagnan and Three Musketeers.» In the film Pidhirtsi castle was Louvre. It was where D’Artagnan brought the Duke of Buckingham.
Art admirers call Pidhirtsi Castle Ukrainian Versailles Castle. Our region has such a treasure. Unique and full of mysticism. In such way tourists talk about Pidhirtsi Castle. There is a legend that there is a ghost of a woman in the castle. Not only people in Pidhirtsi have heard about this legend but they also like to create different stories about it. Local citizens say that the previous owner of the castle the Count Yablonskyy tortured his young wife because of jealousy and then cemented her body in the wall of the castle. Now it is her ghost who live in Pidhirtsi Castle.
After the restoration of the castle you can not check if this story is true or not but it is certainly worth visiting Pidhirtsi Castle.
Pidhirtsi Castle was built for recreation of Hetman Stanislaw Koniecpolski. You should agree that a quite good estate was built. Although now the castle in Pidhirtsi is ruined and it needs a reconstruction, many years ago the palace impressed everyone by its magnificent halls, paintings on the ceilings and walls, artworks and weapons.
In general, with Pidhirtsi Castle are connected the lives of many people – Polish kings Wladyslaw IV, Jan Sobieski, princes Sangushko.
In Pidhirtsi Castle was a private museum of Sangushko princes which was later robbed by fascists. There was also a tuberculosis hospital, too. Pidhirtsi Castle suffered the most during World War II and then there was a big fire here. A few years ago, the World Monuments Fund included Pidhirtsi Castle to the list of a hundred monuments in the world that need an immediate restoration. It woud be a pity if our children will not see this miracle of architecture and a part of history because of the poor funding.
