Koropetskyy Castle which now is called Castle Badeni is a great place for fans of Viennese renaissance. The luxirious architecture attracts to Palace Badeni real connoisseurs of the ancient art. And a spirit of fragile ladies, which walk around the exquisite park near the castle, still each of us can feel.
The Count Stanislaw Badeni, who in 1906 rebuilt the palace to his taste, when bought it in Myslowski family in the late nineteenth century, invested his taste in the architectural forms.
Social activist, politician, doctor of law and philosophy used work of the best experts in reconstruction of the castle. The Count was not greedy for architects of the landscape design that founded an exotic garden.
At the time of its master Koropetskyy Castle impressed by incredible usage of wood that was painting wonderful designs and patterns on the floor and walls of Castle Badeni. Modern tourists of Lviv region at least can enjoy the external architecture and try to imagine how the palace looked a century ago. Nowadays, the condition of the castle certainly needs to be improved. However, the stucco, which chose the Count Badeni, is beautifully preserved.
The uniqueness of Castle Badeni is in the park that surrounds the castle. At the time of its master its area was200 hectares. The Count used work of thirty gardeners that took care of exotic trees and plants. Even until today the big trees are preserved. Exotic highlight are the trees platens which you can see in the park near the castle. Few people know but the castle around the palace and Stryyskyy Park in Lviv are founded by the same person – famous in Galicia gardener Roring.
Nowadays, in the walls of Koropetskyy Castle for several decades is a boarding school. Over the years Palace Badeni almost had not lost its historical beauty and luxury. Until now there is preserved the unique moldings and the park that surrounds the castle is tidy and well-maintained.
During the reign of the Count Badeni people loved to have balls and to invite to them a lot of others. In the central part of the palace people greeted their guests and the huge hall – royal ballrom, where ladies in elegant clothes danced waltz, was located from the side of the garden. Between having fun the guests of the family had an ability to relax in the gallery which was located around the lobby. The reliable oak staircase began from the gallery. In the cold winter evenings the Count’s family gathered around the fireplace made from black marble. And then the family went to their rooms which were located in another wing of the palace. In the palace there were the library and a chapel from which people could get into the park.
Above the main entrance you can see the orchestra balcony. Formerly the walls of the palace were decorated with portraits of Polish kings – copies of Marpeliy Manikovskyy of the works of Jan Matejko. Unfortunately, Palace Badeni was damaged in 1920, even though the walls of the castle were recovered, the portraits were lost.
As a family value we can consider the table in the style of Louis – with a marble countertop and artistic carvings. Apparently, at this place the jewelery in the palace ended. Since the reconstruction of the palace was completed almost before the start of World War I, almost all collections of Badeni family remained in the estates in Busk and Radekhiv. Precious furniture and paintings were never in Koropetskyy Castle.
Art critics tell the legend of limitless wealth of the Count Badeni. They say that the fortune of the Count was so large that Stanislaw Badeni wanted to cover the floor in his palace with gold. However, on the golden coinswas pictured an emblem and to stand on the symbolsof the state was unsuitable. The architects suggested to put coins on the edge but the Count had not that much gold.
Nowadays, the residents of Busk insist that the palace shoul be returned to the ownership of the city.
